Routes for Everyone: An inclusive festival brought together more than 500 people at Quilaco Public Beach

The event is one of the pioneers in the region and took place at a destination that offers universal access for everyone to engage with and enjoy nature, including the opportunity to participate in adapted water sports, all in a family-friendly and safe environment.

“Routes for Everyone” was a complete success, as recognized by the more than 500 attendees who came from across the region to enjoy a pioneering event in the territory that, according to its organizers and collaborators, could have future editions.

Specifically, the activity held at the Quilaco Public Beach and the Arboretum (a space featuring native flora and fauna) allowed people with disabilities to enjoy a day that included: Adaptive SUP, forest meditation, a motivational talk delivered by high-performance adaptive athlete, national parasurf team member and Colbún project engineer, Elías Valencia, as well as live music with the “Teletón DJ, Max Baeza” and zumba.

For the host and Mayor of Quilaco, Pablo Urrutia, “Routes for Everyone” was “a tremendous achievement accomplished with great effort and dedication from many people. Municipal staff participated here, along with those from the Biobío Health Service and private companies such as Colbún, Coca Cola, CMPC and the Rotary Club of Los Ángeles, and thanks to all of them we have managed to create and leave the right conditions for people with different abilities to be part of these activities.”

Along the same lines, the Director of the Biobío Health Service, Walter Alvear, spoke about the activity, stating that he is “proud of the teams' work. What started as an idea brought together many actors — primarily the municipality, but also the companies and, above all, the families who together with the staff organized this tremendous activity. More than 500 people — it was more than we expected, and everything was very safe, perfect, and moving.”

Meanwhile, the Director of Senadis Biobío, Paulina Fuentes, expressed her happiness at “having been part of this celebration, and indeed this is one of the pioneering activities in terms of accessible tourism, inclusive tourism and sports, which allows people with disabilities to integrate, explore, participate in nature, and be in the water. A meeting place where people come together and enjoy this space that is adapted for them.”

Meanwhile, speaker Elías Valencia, who shared his experience and how he has successfully integrated into the world of sports and work, explained that “as a Colbún employee, it has been important for me to see how this company has taken inclusion as an important issue and brought it to the next level. I say this not only in terms of employment, but also because their contribution on this topic has always been notable, and that matters because not all companies have it in mind — and that should be highlighted, so that more people and more companies can join this movement of accessibility for all.”

ANGOSTURA DEL BIOBÍO

“Routes for Everyone” took place at the Quilaco Public Beach and the Arboretum, both part of the Angostura del Biobío Tourist Destination, which has been committed to providing universal access and spaces, being one of the pioneers in genuinely addressing inclusivity.

For this reason, Colbún's Central Biobío Cordillera Communities Specialist, Yenia Baeza, wanted to highlight the work that has been done around universal access and inclusivity, acknowledging that it was a concrete demonstration that when the public sector, private sector, and community work together, exceptional things are achieved.

In this regard, Baeza noted that “we are extremely happy with this activity, and for the very first edition of “Routes for Everyone,” we far exceeded 500 attendees in a park that is accessible to all people.”

The Angostura del Biobío Park is located in the municipalities of Santa Bárbara and Quilaco, and its tourist attractions are open year-round. Those interested in visiting can find all the necessary information to enjoy nature, rest, practice sports, and other activities at www.angosturadelbiobio.cl.
