For following up and controlling atmospheric emissions every Colbún thermoelectric power plant is provided with a Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS per its acronym in English).
CEMS are placed on the power plant’s chimneys to measure in real-time the concentration of emissions, data which is later informed to the authority.
On an annual basis, CEMS must be subjected to stringent processes certified by the Superintendence of the Environment to ensure data quality and reliability.
CEMS allows measuring the particulate material (PM), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and nitrogen dioxides (SO2) issued to the atmosphere, thus checking compliance with the regulatory requirements.
Six air quality monitoring stations
They measure particulate material, gases and meteorological parameters
Online data submission
Supervised by the Superintendence of the Environment
