Central de Bombeo Paposo para el Almacenamiento, Generación y Transporte de Energía proyect is a renewable energy storage initiative that takes advantage of the region’s geographic conditions to store and generate electricity through a process of recirculating industrial desalinated water.

Central de Bombeo Paposo para el Almacenamiento, Generación y Transporte de Energía

Its primary objective is to diversify the energy matrix and contribute to satisfy the country's electricity demand with clean and sustainable energy.

The generated electricity will be integrated into the National Electric System (SEN)

  • Extensive early community consultation process that started in July 2022, providing valuable input for the Environmental Impact Study.
  • Closed-circuit water recirculation system, significantly reducing seawater consumption.
  • As one of the smallest desalination plants in the region, it will produce an average of 30 liters per second during operation.

  • Attributes of the initiative include:

  • Environmental: Addresses water scarcity issues, contributes to climate change mitigation through low water consumption achieved via recirculation.
  • Social: Multipurpose infrastructure that creates opportunities for nearby communities and supports the development of locally relevant collaborative projects.
  • Innovation: Introducing new technology to Chile, efficient use of resources by using desalinated water to operate.
